Deconstructing Media: Valentine's Day

Where does this text come from? Who created it? Who owns it? Who profits?
The film itself was directed by Garry Marshall, who will profit from it. The text was created and owned by the Warner Brothers Studio, who also profit from it.

What is the purpose of this text? Entertainment? Information? Persuasion?
The main purpose of this text is for entertainment. However, it is also persuasive. I feel that it is persuasive because it is trying to convince the viewers to go and watch the movie. It's entertaining because of the humor in the movie.

Who is the intended target audience? (consider age group, male/female, etc.)
The intended target audience for this movie would be the female population who are 13 and older.

In what ways does this text tell a story? Does it connect to a larger story?

This text tells a story by giving a glimpse of the larger story that it is connected to. It is telling a rather large story because it is explaining the whole idea of Valentine's Day.

What are the characters like? Are they realistic? Are they stereotyped?

I feel that the characters in this film are mostly stereotyped. The reason for this is because it is giving off the impression that every couple is always happy, which isn't entirely true.

What does this text appear to be saying on a surface level? What are the values and ideology behind this text? Does the text present the beliefs of one particular group?

This text is saying that the movie is fairly entertaining and humorous. The values and ideals behind this text are that every couple is happy and celebrate Valentine's Day the same way.

How does this text appeal to me? What things do I like and dislike?
The main thing that I like about this text is that it gives you an idea of what type of movie Valentine's Day is. It seems hilarious and I like all of the actors and actresses, some more than others though. One thing that I dislike is that fact of that the stereotype couples.
